So was just heading into town to pick up my car from the mechanics, this involves getting on the Bruce Highway for a bit. Anyway, was turning onto the highway when one of those pilot vehicles drove past and I was just about to pull out when I saw it was a military truck coming. So I waited for it to pass then tagged in behind it (done safely, there were other cars between the convoy) and I looked up and realised it was an Abrams sitting on the trailer with the big old cannon pointing straight back at me.
Was pretty awesome, damn those things are big - the trailer took up the whole lane, as in its wheels were touching both white lines at the same time.
I also noticed that the convoy kept even spacing, but they didn't slow down for the 60 zone as you come into town. I think they slowed to about 80 but even then it looked like they did that because cars were turning off.
For those of you with Facebook, check out the Talisman Sabre page.
When it kicks off proper, they'll put up a heap of photos and updates on what's going on. I did it for the 2011 one and it was well worth it. https://www.facebook.com/talismansabre

Talisman Saber(sic) 2013's open day was held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds. Got to play around with a Bushmaster's CROW mount as well has handle a lot of small arms. In past years it was a look but don't touch attitude. This year however you could hold, lift and touch EVERYTHING! (Apart from the mk19, M2HB and M252 mortar )
Aircraft wise, I've seen our blackhawks and Kiowas. A nice looking female Captain and pilot told me that the Tigers are due in tomorrow. The US currently have C2 Greyhounds at the local airport, USAF search and rescue Blackhawks which were dropped of by a pair of C17's (As seen on the Exercise's Facebook page)
However there is a newcomer to this year's biannual event..

MV-22s! They sound amazing! :thumbsupsmileyanim:
Didn't record them taking off, was too busy snapping pics with my SLR. Dad got some video though... I'll see if I can "borrow" the footage.
